Conference City
Kota Kinabalu is the capital city of the state of Sabah, Malaysia, located at the northern tip of Borneo. It is a dynamic, multicultural city and the leading commercial city on the island of Borneo. Kota Kinabalu is a major hub for coastal, island and dive tourism along Sabah's lengthy coast and ecotourism to Mount Kinabalu and orangutan habitats in the interior of Borneo.
Sabah's emergence as a major regional tourist destination for East and Southeast Asia is fostering rapid growth in coastal resort development , while concomittent efforts are under way to greatly expand and enhance the state's island and marine parks. However, as the poorest and most expensive state in Malaysia, Sabah faces significant challenges, include a very large number of unregistered boat migrants from the Philippines and Indonesia who occupy most of the water villages that line Sabah's coastline.
